Kaputas Beach, situated on Türkiye’s southwestern Mediterranean coast between the towns of Kas and Kalkan, has once again been highlighted in international tourism rankings for 2026.
The beach features prominently in several curated selections, including the “World’s 50 Best Beaches” global ranking—placing it among the top coastal destinations worldwide—and the “Best Beaches in Europe 2026” list published by European Best Destinations.
A Natural Landmark Shaped by Canyon Geology
Kaputas Beach is widely recognised for its dramatic geographical formation. It sits at the mouth of a narrow canyon where steep limestone cliffs descend sharply towards the Mediterranean Sea.
This natural structure not only creates a visually striking, amphitheatre-like setting but also contributes to the water’s characteristic turquoise colour.
The shoreline itself is relatively intimate, comprising a mix of fine sand and pebbles. Steep rock walls frame the cove from behind, giving the beach a secluded, almost enclosed appearance.
Preserving an Unspoilt Haven
One of the defining features of Kaputas Beach is its access route: visitors reach the shore by descending approximately 180 steps carved into the cliffside from the D400 coastal highway.
This natural barrier helps to limit excessive crowding at any one time, preserving the cove’s relatively unspoilt character.
Despite its immense popularity, the area remains largely protected, seeing far less development than other Mediterranean coastal destinations. While basic facilities such as seasonal showers, changing areas, and a small café are available, large-scale commercialisation is intentionally kept to a minimum to maintain the beach’s natural appeal.
